Racing Information

Warm-up event HYC Cup

Enjoy a whole week of Dragon sailing on Balaton! There is a warm-up event organized by the Hungária Yacht Club (president: Dragon sailor Lóránd Gömbös) right before the event in Balatonfüred. The course is quite close, no matter where you are craning in your boat, you can sail in 45 minutes from Alsóörs to the course.

Racing area

Alsóörs is in the middle of the Eastern part of Balaton which makes it easy to find an appropriate racing area in any wind system. The sailing time to the starting line is never more than 30 minutes. It is possible to have a 2 miles long first beat in any wind direction.

Conditions

There is no current, the lake depth varies between 3 and 5 meters. If it blows, it can be choppy. In May the water is warm, can be more than 20 C°.

Wind conditions (light – medium):

  • N-NW 15-22 knots (weather front wind)
  • N-NE 5-10 knots (stable weather)
  • S-SW 8-14 knots (thermic wind)

Entry fee

  • Early bird entry fee: Euro 500 per boat (if entered until April 20 the latest).
  • Normal entry fee: 600 Euro

Race Management

  • Measurer: IDA Chief Measurer Mr Bence Toronyi.
  • PRO: Mr Peter Farkas (IRO) supported by Stavros on the starting vessel.
  • Jury: International jury, led by Mr Jörn-Christoph Jansen from Germany (IJ).
  • Rules: Jury will observe incidents on the water, but Appendix P (whistling for pumping) is not used.
  • Courses: Windward/leeward with a target time of 75 minutes.
  • GPS: GPS devices will be allowed.
  • NOR: Will be available by mid-February.

Electronic starting system

In accordance with the new rules an electronic starting system (Race Sense by Vakaros) will be used. OCS will be real-time detected by the race management and you will know in the exact moment of the start signal, if you have to go back and re-start (red or green light signal on your onboard instrument).

  • If you have Vakaros 2 or Vakaros Edge on board, you have to simply register it.
  • If you do not have any of this, you can rent it for an affordable fee on the spot.

Logistics

Support boats

Due to Hungarian government restrictions, support RIBs which are not registered for Balaton are only allowed with a special licence that can be arranged by the organizing club only. The fee for the special licence is Euro 150. The licence shall be applied until April 15 the latest.
